Blabbering and whatnot over at Ignite Phoenix

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Ignite Phoenix is rolling into Phoenix again on Oct 29th. Have you made your submission to present? Are you a scaredy cat? Huh? Are ya?

Seriously though the first one was a blast as you can watch here. Even if you are a chicken and dont want to submit that it okay (we know who you are). You should still come on down since its free and after we are gonna go have beers at Half Moon Sports Grill or maybe Two Hippies Taco Shack.

Cacaphony of electric beeps and tweeks - Modeselektor

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Haven’t been keeping as on top of the Xlr8r podcasts lately due to recent addiction to audio books from local library. Been getting learned but haven’t been boppin me head around on the daily commute.

Finally took some time this evening to get some writing and organizing done and been jammin to a mix from a few weeks back mixed by Modeselektor outta Berlin. The mix is definitely eclectic and jumps all over the place while maintaining a technoish feel. If anything it will break up the monotony and perhaps you will become a total convert like myself. While I prefer DnB or DubStep this handles quite well and may get some replays

High Glass in the Low Desert

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I have had an on again off again love affair with the Desert Botanical Gardens since I first moved to Phoenix 8 years ago. the place is really a great idea and has the right intentions but I always feel a bit let down when I actually go.

The Luminaries are fun but there are just too many people being jerks. Seriously folks try to act civil and let people by when they say excuse me, oh and no shoving. You will be back in your BMW, where jerk status is encouraged and accepted, soon enough.

However I am now in love status again as Chihuly will be installing his famous glass works starting Nov 22, 2008 through May 31, 2009. If you don’t know who Chihuly is please have a look around. There was a special on PBS last year where he was hanging chandeliers over the canals in Venice and it was amazing.

As a member you get in Free and I plan on going as many times as possible. Entry is going to be broken up into three times through the day so that it doesn’t get too crowded. I plan on making the morning and evening sessions a few times to get some optimal photos taken.

Summer Shift - From cycling to Yoga

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

There has been a severe degradation in my posting frequency as of late. This is due to a few external factors that have thrown my routine off a bit.

The biggest shift has been away from cycling, at least for the time being. This is mainly due to the recent rash of severe temps seen in the PHX area. Over 10 degrees above normal temps along with some mild heat stroke a few weeks back have forced me to hold off on the bike for a while.

In its replacement I have started back into the yoga quite extensively. I have also found a new studio in the Central PHX area: www.gravitycenteryoga.com taught by Erica. This place rocks, it is literally just a studio, no lounge or retail action here. Just a floor and restroom. Erica is over 10 years experienced in a number of Yoga traditions and works well with novices as well as experts. She loves to kill the abs, which I need, and really adds a lot of variation to the routine everyday.

I am off to Vail for a wedding this weekend so there will probably be little coming from me till next week. So keep the rubber side down and hold them mudras!

Green tip of the day - Instant Weed Killer

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

From my weekly newsletter at Dollar Stretcher Tips:

Instant Weed Killer

Weeds that grow between bricks on your walkway or sidewalk are
unsightly and can easily be killed without weed killer. Simply
boil water in your teakettle and pour it on the weeds. This is
better for the environment, too.

June 4th Wrap Up - iPhone 2 and Singularity

June 4th Wrap Up - iPhone 2 and Singularity, originally uploaded by halfacat.

iPhone 2 is clogging my brainwaves. 3g and GPS! OMFG! I need it I need it!!!!!
Oh and then I got bit by the Singularity bug by Tracy A Sheridan. She came out of the blue following me on Twitter today and blew my mind when I saw she was blogging about the Singularity and its effects on Business. If you are hearing Singularity for the first time please catch up. Its only the most significant event on the horizon in regards to a fundamental shift in human existence (that was kinda ugly, oh well).

What are your thoughts on thinking machines and human’s evolution with them?
