It’s a Party Silly – Crash It

Wow a nice piece in the NYT today about IgniteNYC and the reemergence of Tech parties. This is great timing with the release of the first Ignite Phoenix in just over a week. They capture the idea of the events really nicely:

Now, young Internet entrepreneurs, some holdouts from the old days and a few members of the city’s creative class (and underclass) are engaged in a new type of party, which mashes together Silicon Alley 1.0’s camaraderie and optimism, meetup.com’s spontaneity and informality, Burning Man’s home-brewed creativity, and a technology conference’s devotion to unveiling ideas. These days many of the ideas are about producing and delivering video content.

Exciting stuff all around!

  1. [...] In the meantime I am going through my Reader Feeds and see this article on Lifehacker about Garysguide.org and the rise of Tech Events in the usual spots around the US. They have a link to this article on the NYT about IgniteNYC and my mind is being totally blown. [...]

Phoenix is rockin’. There’s Refresh Phoenix (www.refreshphoenix.org), Refactor Phoenix (www.refactorphoenix.com), a Desert Code Camp two or three times a year, we’ve had a Phoenix BarCamp two years running, and now Ignite has landed.

Plus there are a slew of monthly meetings for designers and developers and entrepreneurs every month. Crash the party indeed!
